An emergency kit doesn’t have to be elaborate. Think of it as a collection of items that would be invaluable during a few days without power, clean water, or outside assistance.
1. Emergency Power & Lighting
Battery-powered or wind-up torch
Spare batteries (various sizes)
Wind-up or battery-powered radio (for Met Éireann updates)
Power bank for mobile devices
Candles and waterproof matches/lighter
Portable generator or power station (for extended outages)
2. Food & Water Supplies
At least 3 days' worth of non-perishable food (e.g., canned goods, energy bars, dried fruit)
Manual can opener
Bottled water (at least 2 litres per person per day)
Water purification tablets or filtration system
3. First Aid & Medications
Fully stocked first aid kit (bandages, antiseptics, pain relievers, scissors, tweezers, etc.)
Essential medications (at least a week’s supply)
